Abstract
Immigration is a relatively new phenomenon in our country. The constant growing number of immigrants has represented a new challenge for the health system. In Palliative Care, where communication with the patient is of utmost importance, we must be aware of the peculiarities of health care in different groups of immigrants. We present the case of a Muslim immigrant with osteosarcoma of the right ileac plate who suffered severe complications in the course of the illness. We analysed the role of cultural mediators as a basic tool in the care of certain groups of immigrants, the most important peculiarities in Muslim religion and culture with respect to health care and the vulnerability derived from the linguistic and cultural barriers. Terminal sedation in this case is debated.
