Abstract
Facing a huge immigration wave of young migrants and refugees, the German vocational education system is challenged at its highest. Central goal is to successfully integrate these immigrants into the labour market by reaching a good person-job-fit. A decisive prerequisite is that the immigrants possess a so-called career maturity to articulate a clear career aspiration. In this study, we shed light into their career willingness and ability (in the sense of career maturity). Thereby, we link established concepts of career decision theory with labour market instruments to get detailed insights into immigrants’ career identity, adaptability and resilience. The results provide fruitful hints for designing career orientation measures, to evoke a discussion on the design of educational programs but also on transferring these linkages to future studies; also to panel studies, comparative studies or even longitudinal studies. © 2018, Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, ein Teil von Springer Nature.
