Abstract

Hepatitis B in the developed world is usually restricted to groups at risk, like surgeons, dentists, drug addicts or patients receiving blod products, but in the developing world it is extremely prevalent and mainly transferred perinatally. This review focus on the problems in relationship to immigration between countries with high prevalence of hepatitis B to countries with a low prevalence. Diagnosis, prevention, transmission, treatment and public health aspects are described and simple interventions and information to the target groups could help reduce the spread of hepatitis B. Physicians working with adolescents should be aware of the ways of transmission and inform of simple measures to prevent further transmission.
