Abstract
Groups can be a particularly effective modality for accomplishing prevention goals, and this article introduces a group designed to promote preventive coping among first-generation college students from migrant families. Elements of the first three meetings of the group are described to demonstrate how members were encouraged to (a) inventory the demands they were currently experiencing, (b) examine the use of both combative and preventive strategies to deal with current stressors, and (c) develop preventive coping resources. The article concludes with a description of the outcome measures used to evaluate the effectiveness of the group. © 2001, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
