Abstract

Health education is a very important aspect of the prevention of AIDS (Auto Immune Deficiency Disease), but the subject is disturbing and it seems that young persons are not motivated to receive information on the topic. In this short communication results are presented on a series of activity-oriented meetings with youths at a Language Center in Israel and youth from an immigrant temporary site involving 175 immigrant adolescents. 108 adolescents from a Youth Village and Absorption Center functioned as controls. Pre-testing and post-testing showed that active educational programs are more effective than usual passive educational approaches. This pilot study has shown the need for more active prevention programs on the topic of AIDS for immigrant adolescents in Israel.
