Abstract

When considering the various relief aspects in dealing with refugees, the capacity to effectively resolve public health problems arising from the frequent influx of refugees is of particular importance. This paper reports the results of a large scale study aimed at the analysis of the relief operation and the health assistance given to Albanian refugees arriving in our region. Both the various health problems present, and the solutions offered in the form of relief camps, will be described. The data was collected from questionnaires compiled by the health directors of the relief camps and, where available, from personal health report cards of the refugees. The registration of infectious disease cases was checked at the Local Health Authority concerned.
