A Survey on knowledge, attitude and high risk behaviors of AIDS/STD among migrant workers in Guizhou Province (Article)

Abstract

Objective To study the knowledge, attitude and high risk behaviors about AIDS/STD among the migrant workers from the countryside, and provide theoretical foundation for health education and high risk behaviors interventions on AIDS/STD among migrant workers. Methods A stratified cluster random sampling method was used in the investigation related to the knowledge,attitude and behavior about AIDS/STD among the migrant workers in Guiyang, Anshun. and Zunyi. Results The rate of awareness of AIDS/STD knowledge was low in the respondents., Of respondents, 26.44% had not correct answer for the transmission route of AIDS/STD, 34.81% of respondents agreed on premarital sexual behavior, 26.33% agreed with sex outside marriage, 22.51% of respondents agreed on multiple sexual partners, 19.14% had more than two sexual partners, 37.82% of respondents never used condom during sexual intercourse. Conclusion The migrant workers had limited knowledge, even some misunderstanding about AIDS/STD. The question on high-risk sexual behaviors was still serious in these migrant worker group. ≥40 years old, low culture, male migrant workers should be taken as control of high-risk behavior intervention target population by all relevant sectors of society. It is time to strength the education of AIDS/STD and, and encourage them to change their high risk behaviors. © 2015, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine. All rights reserved.
