Abstract
This study aims to provide measures for the Korean government's treatment of marriage migrants. The study shows how the recent countermeasures by the Korean government led to a decrease in the number of marriage migrants. The rate of this increase was more than 28% on average every year since 2000, but began to decrease from 2007, and the average rate of increase reached 2.1% only after 2010, as determined by the literature review. The countermeasures of Korean administrative departments on the soundness of international marriage are analyzed. Because the current actions of Korean government are having unintended side effects, particularly in terms of the decreasing number of marriage migrant women and the sunk cost of government-funded projects, this study offers suggestions for measures that can improve the situation. © 2015 International Information Institute.
