Abstract

Smoking patterns differ between immigrants' country of origin and their host country Germany. As a result of an acculturation process - initiated with the arrival in Germany - immigrants adapt towards the smoking patterns of men and women in Germany. Among immigrants from Turkey, the smoking prevalence increases in women and decreases in men. Therefore, anti-smoking interventions should aim at preventing smoking initiation in Germany among immigrant women, whereas programs addressing immigrant men should aim to further decrease smoking prevalence. ©2015 by De Gruyter.
