Abstract

In Germany, 17.6% of newborn babies are born to mothers of foreign nationality. In the former federal territory and East Berlin, 19.7% were assessed, while in the New Länder 5% were assessed. Perinatal and infant mortality are important indicators for the quality of pre-, peri- and postnatal care. In Germany, both indicators are elevated in infants of foreign nationality. Prevention and prenatal care in pregnancy have to be adapted to the cultural and linguistic diversity to adequately address the needs of immigrant mothers. ©2015 by De Gruyter.
