Abstract

In this paper the term migration is defined and the living conditions of families with migrant background are examined. Demographic aspects und explanations for migration are presented. Using the example of identity development the special developmental tasks of migrant children are described and Muslim religion as a possible stress factor is discussed. Several examples of experiences of discrimination are presented. When the specific characteristics of migrant children and their resulting needs are considered in the context of mental disorders of children and adolescents, it becomes evident that there is need for further clinical research. © Hogrefe Verlag, Göttingen 2015.
