Abstract
One third of the German population aged under 18 years (29.1% according to microcensus 2009) is growing up in families with a migration background. A large part of these children and adolescents did not migrate by themselves, but they were born in the second or third generation in a migrated family. However, a migration background is influencing the environment and the health situation, even though there is a difference according to country of origin, gender, age, socioeconomic status and length of stay or immigrant generation, respectively. Thereby, health chances and risks are also unequally distributed within the migration population. ©2015 by De Gruyter.
