Abstract

Objective: To identify the influencing factors of drinking behaviors among migrant workers from rural to urban in Shanghai, China. Methods: With multistage stratified-culster sampling, 5 855 migrant workers aged 18-65 years and inhabited above 6 months from 7 districts in Shanghai were selected to finish a current drinking behaviors survey. Time of survey was from Aug. 1, 2012 to Oct. 31, 2012. The alcohol drinking at least once a month was defined as drinking. Logistic multivariate regression was made to analyze the influcing factors of drinking behaviors. Results: Totally 5 623 valid questionnaires were got. The drinking rate of migrant workers in Shanghai was 35.0%; the frequency of drinking in men (54.3%) was higher than that in women (14.8%). Among the subjects having different levels of education, those who got above bachelor education were more likely to drink (57.1%). Among the crowds of different income, those who had higher monthly income (3 500-4 499 yuan) were more likely to drink (53.9%). There were several factors influencing the drinking rate of rural to urban migrant workers, including gender, career, marital status, educational level, personal monthly income, living conditions, smoking and depression factor score. Conclusions: The rate of alcohol drinking is high among migrant workers from rural to urban in Shanghai. Health education for drinking alcohol among the migrant workers should be enhanced to prevent and reduce the incidence of alcohol-related diseases and injuries. ©, 2015, Fudan University.
