Abstract

The European Union finds itself in the process of testing new financing methods for the coming 2014-2020 period. The proposal for a regulation establishing the Asylum and Migration Fund has reached its final phase, and its implementation shall supersede the rules that governed the European Fund for the Integration of third-country nationals. This fund has financed numerous programs for the social integration of immigrants in Spain since its implementation in 2007, but the fund's goals have not always aligned with the priorities of the European Commission. The major challenge is that Spain is facing an economic, social, and political period this is completely different from seven years ago. Therefore, there is an urgent need to deepen our reflection on immigrant integration policies.
