Student perceptions on refugees: An evaluation based on multiculturalism (Article)

Abstract

As a part of a comprehensive research project this study basically aims at analyzing the preliminary findings related the opinions about refugees in Turkey within the context of perceptions of senior students attending the faculty of education in terms of multiculturalism. The study pattern is a qualitative case study. 12 prospective teachers attending their final year at the faculty of education participated in this study. The findings from in-depth interviews were analyzed on the basis of literature within the framework of descriptive analysis. Findings from the study generally show that the participants have a certain awareness of refugees especially within the context of Syrians. The perceptions about refugees are shaped by establishing communication and interaction with refugees, self-definition, teaching identity and socio-economic concerns. © The Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology.
