Abstract

Being parent within the context of immigration might be difficult for some parents who have difficulties to reconcile their desires, their aspirations and their parental project on the one hand with the obligations of the new society on the other end. The identity conflicts, mainly provoked by the system in which the parents live, may have repercussions on all the educative dimensions: the affective, cognitive and social dimension (Pourtois and Desmet, 2004). Considerable suffering orig~nates in the disaffiliation, the cognitive unavailability and the social disqualifica~tion. A specific social action - centred round the notions of reliance, instrumenta~lising and positive expectations - might help the parents to reduce those tensions.
