Abstract

This short overview presents selected research topics in the field of migration related psychiatry. Selected findings are presented. The main topics of research are (1) epidemiology, (2) access barriers to mental health institutions, (3) influence of language on diagnosis and therapy, and (4) the development of culturally competent services. Research on these topics in Germany is insufficiently developed, if compared to neighboring countries in Europe or if compared internationally. Reasons for these deficits are discussed.
