Abstract

The routine immunization program recommended in Switzerland is applied to migrants, with slight modifications. One additional injection is given to complete the basic vaccination with several vaccines since the time intervals between doses has been somewhat shortened. A primovaccination can thus be realized quickly and a protective level achieved in a minimal time, which is an advantage for this highly mobile population. Every opportunity should be used to update the vaccine status of migrants, especially of those that are illegal. The positive attitude of migrants towards vaccines facilitates implementation of these recommendations, Migrants are indeed keener to accept vaccinations than the Swiss population since they have often experienced the suffering caused by these preventable childhood diseases.
