Abstract

Studies with respect to mental health of migrants have concentrated mainly on city samples, showing a different access to care compared to natives, as well as evidence for migrant-specific psychosocial stressors. Goal of this study was to evaluate results of a rural sample in Lüneburg. Migrants made up 3% of all admissions in 1995-96. Almost half had an addiction disorder, a third a schizophrenic and a fifth an affective, neurotic or stress disorder. The results show a lower access to care as in Hamburg, yet not as high a rate of schizophrenic disorders and a higher rate of compulsory admissions compared to Hamburg.
