Abstract

Economic migration into Spain, mainly from Latin American, Africa and Eastern European countries is nowadays a cuantitatively important social phemomena. As the economic migration process consolidates, family members, specially spouses and children follow the migrant worker and move into new social and cultural setting. Among other consequences, migration brings about important nutricional changes, that may result in nutricional deficiencies, overweight and so on. In this study, we explore the diet and anthropometry of a set of migrant and Spanish children. Our preliminary results show a high prevalence of overweight in all children, but specially in the second generation of migrants, as well as poor intake of specific nutrients that may lead to nutritional deficiencies in immigrants.
