Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to enrich the bases of knowledge of Spanish exile during the first Franco regime (1939-1959). Its protagonist is a practically anonymous woman: Piedad Domínguez Díaz. Marked by her relationship with Agapito García Atadell, she assumes his decision to flee from Spain (1936) and faced to a political exile life, first voluntary (1937-1940) and then forced (1940-1956), that has nothing to do with that of the women of the intellectual elite or political activists. In France, she is a widowed exile obliged to move out of her domestic role and to adapt to a different world, with heterogeneous experiences of a labor, social, daily and family nature that enrich her person. Through official reports and the family version, this article shows Piedad as Agapito's companion and discover Piedad as protagonist of her destiny. © 2018 Schedes. All rights reserved.
