Abstract

The study aims at identifying socio-demographic, social and attitudinal correlates of Polish language skills and knowledge about Poland in a sample of 41 teenagers aged 13–18 whose mothers migrated to Germany from Poland and who have been raised in Regensburg, Germany, since birth or infancy. Stepwise forward analysis was used to estimate the association between a range of socio-demographic, attitudinal and developmental factors on the one hand, and a range of skills on the other. Cluster analysis followed, confirming the outstanding role of maintenance of a long-term friendship with an age peer in Poland which had been identified as a strong predictor of four out of five competences. © 2019, Society of Friends of the Polish Language.
