Abstract

Based on theoretical analysis, it is noted in this article that the situation of migration can be viewed as a complex stressful situation, accompanied by a conflict between the norms and values that are typical for a person, and characteristic for the environment that he or she abandoned, as well as the norms and values characteristic of the new environment. At the same time, forced migration is a stressful emergency situation, which has a negative traumatic effect on the physical, psychological and emotional state of an individual. In this regard, it is concluded that it is important to represent the psychological adaptation of migrants as a constant process of an individual's active adaptation to the conditions of the social environment, which is aimed at establishing the optimal correlation of the goals and values of the individual and society. Four types of migrants' adaptation to the environment are described; the most constructive adaptation strategies are highlighted. It is concluded that considering the problem of migrants' adaptation to new standards of living in a particular region, it is necessary to take into account the set of the region's capabilities and an individual's opportunities for successful adaptation. Based on the empirical study, the data on the process and resource base of forced migrants' adaptation (migrants from Donetsk, Lugansk and other regions of Ukraine) to new living conditions have been obtained. It has been revealed that forced migrants are characterized by a lack of purpose and responsibility for the course and results of one's own life, connected with passivity in terms of planning the future; there is a certain encapsulation of the personality in the immediate circle and distancing oneself from new experience and contacts; negative subjective assessment of life in conjunction with fatalistic ideas about it, the tendency to avoid immersion in the analysis of the causes and consequences of events, which makes it difficult to adapt to new living conditions. It is concluded that the acceptance of life experience, taking responsibility for it, the ability to turn new life circumstances into opportunities will allow the migrant to adapt productively to a new place of residence. © 2018, Universidad del Zulia.
