Abstract

A social dialectology proposal in Malaga. The social barriers encountered by immigrants -especially those most vulnerable and in danger of exclusion- are usually aggravated by a total or partial ignorance of the language varieties spoken in the host country and their social functions. This study, on the one hand, is rooted in and finds abundant reasons for social concern brought about partly for linguistic reasons and therefore is presented from the perspective of language sociology. On the other hand, it makes use of the advances of one of the most generalised trends in variational sociolinguist research in Europe to find solutions that attenuate the problem: social dialectology. We propose advancing in the development of a model for teaching languages that helps overcome these barriers through the identification and gradual inclusion in teaching programmes of the linguistic elements that facilitate sociocultural integration: the kindred vocabulary associated with social meanings of community inclusión and more specifically in the city of Malaga. © Universidad de Alcalá.
