This paper approaches some experiences of spanish women who decided to leave Spain in order to create a new life in France, far from the context of hunger and repression. In particular, we will focus our attention on the new political and gender barriers that women had to overcome once in France to obtain the political refugee certificate. We will try to prove that, mostly, their political actions and daily suffering under Franco’s Regime had no value for the French administration and the Spanish organisations in exile. So we will analyse their political and social profile, the reasons that forced them to go into exile and the relations women initiated with the organisations able of providing them with the social and institutional category of political refugee. © 2019 UPV/EHU.
