Abstract
This contribution reports on a pilot project which took place during the winter semester 2015/16 at the University of Göttingen based on the concept of Service Learning. As part of service learning, students assume practical tasks from the social environment and apply academic knowledge. With this new didactical approach, personality development of the students as well as civil and democratic values in society should be enhanced. In the seminar “Projects in Social and Economic Psychology” in the bachelor program Psychology, the following components of the concept were implemented with four groups, containing four students each: approaching refugees by lecturers and seminar participants, activities for intercultural integration, supervision of the students by the lecturers, theory-based reflection of the intercultural experiences and oral presentation at the end of the seminar. The pilot project took a promising course; the relationships between refugees and students prevail and have partly developed into friendships, German language skills of the displaced persons have improved considerably, all participants report on their valuable intercultural experiences. The project will be continued in an enlarged form as “Integration tandems and Supervised Networking”. © 2016, Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden.
