The influence of cultural adaptation stress on depression in married Chinese and Vietnamese immigrant women (Article)

Abstract

This study purposed to investigate the influence of cultural adaptation stress in married Chinese and Vietnamese immigrant women on depression using data from 147 Chinese women and 172 Vietnamese women. This study found the following results. First, in the investigation of differences in cultural adaptation stress (discrimination, homesickness, anxiety, regret, fury, and worries about children) and depression between married Chinese and Vietnamese immigrant women, the only difference was in worries about children. Second, greater anxiety increased depression in the married Chinese immigrant women. Third, greater discrimination stress increased depression in the married Vietnamese immigrant women. These results were discussed in terms of cultural adaptation program. © 2016 International Information Institute.
