Abstract

The military coup of September 11 began the exile of hundreds of thousands of people. The massive influx of Chilean represented a great challenge for the peronist government that responded - among other measures - articulating, together with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Christian churches, a national network of assistance to refugees. However, the deepening of social and political conflict after the death of President Juan Domingo Peron led to significant changes in government policy regarding refugees which affected the situation of Chileans and the work of the agencies that attended them.
