Abstract
This essay investigates the repercussion that artistic training of women in Spain had on a number of female artists during the initial stages of their subsequent exile. Through a brief analysis of exile conditions and the socio-cultural situation in Mexico and Spain, the author examines how skills previously acquired by these women in official arts institutions helped them to enter into the artistic world of the countries where they were received. Likewise, the alleged modernity of this feminine training is considered, as well as the way in which women artists used it in their adaptation to exile.
