Abstract
In Germany, late repatriates have a special legal status. In this study, we investigated whether there are empirical reasons to uphold the differentiation between Germans without migration background, late repatriates and other migrants. N = 1353 patients under unlimited detention order (section 63 of the German legal code) were investigated for diagnoses, main offences and forensic, psychiatric and psychosocial background. Late repatriates share similarities with both comparison groups at hand. From a clinical point of view, they should be treated as a heterogeneous group of patients with treatment needs that must flexibly be adjusted to their special (transcultural) treatment needs, i. e. language skills and their dominant cultural background. © 2016 Hogrefe.
