Abstract

Rape is widely used against the civil population as a weapon of war. Evidence collected by NGOs and a few epidemiological studies show how frequent it is and the severity of its consequences. In France, women who have fallen victim to this form of violence suffer three types of traumas : the pre-migration trauma, the trauma of exile and the trauma linked to the conditions of reception in the country of refuge. The severity of these traumas, the way they intermingle together and the added role of transcultural factors imply a complex approach in terms of diagnosis as well as care.
