Abstract

In Spain, on January 1, 2005, 723,734 foreigners under 19 years of age were registered in the census. This accounts for approximately 17% of all the foreigners, most of them from the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, China and Morocco. The migratory phenomenon is relevantly recent in our country. There number of children of immigrant parents born here is still low. Most have arrived in their adolescence. Thus the immigrant adolescent group in Spain is basically made up, on the one hand, by those who have come to Spain "alone" before they are of legal age and, on the other hand, by immigrant children who come through the processes of family regrouping, the so-called immigrants of one and a half generation. Even though the boys and girls of each group have some common characteristics between them, it would be a mistake to believe that they are homogeneous groups. The migratory phenomenon in this evolutive stage of the individual is an important psychosocial risk. In this work, an attempt is made to analyze the different aspects of adolescence in the immigrant population and their influence on health.
