Inclusion and segregation: The incorporation of Latin American Immigrants into the U.S. labor market (Article)

Abstract

Immigrant Latin American workers are often subject to precarious working conditions and occupational segregation. On the one hand, even if they are as well-educated and as qualified as their U.S. peers, they are often relegated to lower positions. On the other, they systematically receive lower wages than the average U.S. worker in the same occupational fields. This constitutes a clear example of the inclusion of labor coupled with forms of social exclusion. © 2007 Latin American Perspectives.
