Abstract
In Spain, a country where more than 5 million immigrants arrived in just a decade, this social phenomenon produced important changes, among in the field of communication. This article analyzes the evolution of the ethnic press, which emerged around immigrants, whom went from seeing foreigners as an information element to potential clients of their services. In this way, through the measurement and studies of the consumption of the general and ethnic press by the immigrants as well as the valuation that they gave to the new specialized media, it was possible to know the importance of this ethnic press to cover the information needs of the foreigners at the same time that contributing in their integration process in the host society. © 2018 Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
