Abstract

The article discusses results of qualitative empirical research about structures of neighbourhood and opportunities for integration in Vienna public apartment buildings. Media report on considerable tensions between established Austrian tenants and migrant tenants, who have become Austrian citizens. However, there are no empirical studies addressing this issue. Based on theoretical concepts about the relationship between social and spatial structures in cities, findings with regard to social and interaction structures in three different areas of Vienna public apartment buildings are presented.
