Abstract

The author discusses the complexity and multiple meanings of the psychotherapists' responses to the body of women belonging to other ethnicities. This complexity may have a negative influence on the psychotherapeutic relationship. In the light of the author's experience in transcultural psychiatry and psychotherapy and in team work, and in order to better understand patients coming from other cultures, the importance of group supervision and discussion of countertransferencial issues is emphasized.
