Abstract
New Zealand research into social work experience with immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers supports international claims that a new field of practice is emerging. Migration across frontiers for social, political and economic reasons brings local social workers into contact with clients from all over the world as they struggle to settle into their new communities. Social workers in this field need to be skilled in work at all levels, micro, meso and macro.
