Abstract
Primary care physicians will be faced increasingly with ill returned travelers and immigrants in their practices. Initial evaluation will allow the clinician to decide whether the patient has a serious or life-threatening illness that requires urgent hospitalization and expert consultation. Clinicians must be familiar with common travel-related illnesses, and be aware that internationally acquired infections may be undane or exotic and selflimited or rapidly progressive. Some are transmissible, with important public health implications.
