Abstract
As the immigration debate continues to escalate in the United States, the lives and experiences of immigrant children are often overlooked. Immigrant children are one of the fastest growing segments of the US population. Johnson and Menounos (2008) estimated by the year 2050 immigrant children will make up more than 60% of all US children. The purpose of this article is to facilitate a better understanding of immigrant children, their lives, and the challenges they face in the US. To provide insight on the lives and experiences of immigrant children in the US, information was gathered from five sources. These sources included the news media, government agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and scholarly journals. In addition, interviews were conducted with parents of immigrant children, the teachers of immigrant children, healthcare professionals, and immigrant children themselves to lend a firsthand perspective. Collectively, these sources provide an important insight to the challenges that immigrant children face. © Common Ground, Deborah Jones, All Rights Reserved.
