Personal features of migrant workers differ from the personal features of those who do not leave their country for financial reasons. But how do male and female migrant workers differ among themselves? Over the past ten years, the number of female migrant workers in the so-called 'new European states' has caught up with the respective number of males. This is why. the gender aspect of labor migration has increasingly attracted interest among the demographers, sociologists, psychologists, economists and politicians. This research (N=225) focuses mainly on gender and to an extent on the role of ethnicity in labor migration in Latvia, a former Soviet country, which is almost evenly divided into ethnic Latvian and ethnic Russian communities. The research revealed differences in the social attitudes among the migrant workers related to such phenomena as marriage, procreation, education, career, national identity, patriotism etc. This research also touches on the ecological component of the attitude, i.e. the ability of the migrant worker to fulfill his/her attitudes to the issues related to the development of state and society. © Common Ground, Michael Royster, All Rights Reserved.
