Abstract

This paper discusses the policy implications of the transnationality of culture for the integration of migrants. It seeks to draw attention to the significance of a transnational perspective on migration, which challenges policymakers to look beyond national borders in analyzing the scope, purpose and impact of their policies. Bringing the transnationality of culture into the discussion of migrant integration policy, the paper examines recent policy discourses on multiculturalism and the integration of migrants in South Korea. It considers a number of core aspects of migrant integration that should be taken into account in the policy paradigm that could shed light on 'methodological nationalism' and reflect the transnational facet of international migration.
