Abstract
Czech health care professionals have been providing health care for migrant patients more often in recent years. However, systematic research mapping their views and experiences of everyday practice is rare. The aim of this study was to identify the most important problems that Czech health workers face when they treat foreigners. As a methodology, semi-structured interviews with doctors and certain other health professionals were used. Respondents came from primary care, outpatient care, as well as from hospital settings. Responses were subjected to content analysis. It was shown that Czech health care professionals face a number of practical problems when providing health care to foreigners. Problems relating to the payment of health care, including the administrative burden and communication barriers are perceived as the most significant. Lack of awareness of both foreigners and healthcare professionals themselves are also important issues.
