Abstract
Objective: Spain receives a large number of immigrants each year showing itself as a country worried and nervous about the growing influx of foreign. This study aims to explore the relationships among menopausal Ecuadorian women with their health professionals. Design: hermeneutic phenomenological approach. Semi-structured were conducted interviews with 13 women. Data were analyzed using the hermeneutic process. Results: participants preferred to be attended by professionals of the same sex and yearn to express in their own words. Although the participants believe that Spain has a comprehensive and affordable health care, women's encounters with the health professionals appear impersonal and do not meet their expectations. Nurses' competencies within the health system are unknown. Conclusion: training of the health professionals in cultural competence is needed. It is important to start campaigns to publicize the role of the nurse within the health system. © 2012 Fundación Index.
