Abstract
Objective To understand the current situation of HIV/AIDS risk behaviors among migrants in Shenzhen, China, and to explore the potential influencing factors. Methods The present study was an epidemiological cross-sectional survey that was conducted inYantian, Luohu, and Futian Districts of Shenzhen. Statistical methods mainly included chi-square test, multi-logistic regression by SAS 8. 02. Results In our study, 1 014 migrants were recruited. The proportion of 20 to 40 years old subjects was 86. 79%. And 812 of them had sexual behavior. The proportion of subjects who had more than one sex partners was 47. 41%. The risk of having more than one partner of women was lower than that of men, the OR value was 0. 40 (95%CI::0. 28 - 0. 56). Moreover, migrants having first sex with non-spouse had higher possibilities of having more partners than those having first sex with spouse (OR = 3. 87, 95% CI: 2. 72 - 5. 51). The proportion of sex behaviors among unmarried subjects was 66. 75%. We found that 52. 46% of the subjects had used condom during sexual intercourse in the last one year. The χ test showed that the possible influencing factors of condom use included gender, educational level, income, registered permanent residence, score of knowledge about HIV/AIDS, partner of first sexual intercourse, and number of sexual partner. Multi-factors analysis revealed that gender and scores of knowledge about HIV/AIDS were the main influencing factors. The proportion of condom use among female migrants was lower than that among male migrants (OR = 0. 47, 95% CI:0. 34 - 0. 65). The proportion of subjects using condom among migrants who got the scores higher than 60 was higher compared with those lower than 60 (OR = 2. 49, 95% CI: 1. 84 - 3. 36). Conclusions The current situation of HIV/AIDS risk behavior among migrants in Shenzhen, China is worrying. We suggest that more efforts and supporting measures should be taken to reduce the proportion of unsafe sex, especially for men, or those having first sex with non-spouse, or those with lower HIV knowledge.
