Abstract
Prejudice is a destructive and pervasive social problem. The main objective of this paper is to report the prejudice levels of the second region population (Chile) towards Bolivian immigrants (Antofagasta is a reception area with high number of Latin American immigrants). The random and probability sample consisted of 896 participants between 18 and 65 years. We used a Chilean version of the Blatant and Subtle Prejudice Scale (Pettigrew y Meertens, 1995) and its typology to compare these groups in a set of variables. The results indicate high levels of prejudice (Msubtle = 3.38; Mblatant = 2.86) of both subtle and blatant, and positive correlation between the two forms of prejudice (r = .53). The statistical difference between the two types of prejudice is significant. The younger age groups showed significantly lower levels of blatant prejudice and women showed significantly higher levels than men. © Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.
