Abstract
In 1985 70% of refugees from Laos, Kampuchea and Vietnam were still located in camps and holding centers in Thailand. Health services in first asylum camps must be able to provide a level of health care sufficient to meet the minimum health requirements set for resettlement. The paper examines key factors in first asylum camps in Thailand which have exerted a critical influence on refugee health. Trends in refugee mortality and morbidity as stated in annual health surveillance data (1981-1985) are described along with relevant public health strategies. -M.Dean
