Abstract

Focuses on the importance of several location-specific amenities, including mountains and coastlines; these appear to significantly influence migration flows. There does not appear to be a general tendency for migration to be equilibrating with respect to location-specific amenities (in the sense that households become sorted over time depending on preferred amenities). For some amenities, migrants exhibit relatively strong preferences for locations with a level similar to the origin-level. However, migrants also appear to move away from some types of locational amenities.-Author
