Abstract

If the studies which deal with the problems of adaptation of adult migrants to the 'reception' countries are manifold and diversified, they do not permit to understand the peculiar situation which is that of their children. The conditions of the identity process of these youngsters are not comparable to that of their immigrant parents nor to those of the French youths which are not born of immigration. To enlighten the psychological mechanisms at stake during the socialization of these subjects, it seems useful, before resorting to any known scheme of the psycho-social causality, to take into account culture variables and to reintroduce subjectivity, while observing the meanings that the individuals project onto their environment, their action and their being. Therefore, this article aims to demonstrate in what way the light of cultural psychology can be relevant.
