Abstract
An epidemiological survey of a new refugee camp in NW Somalia, carried out in May 1981, revealed a high prevalence of active trachoma of severe and moderate intensity. The importance in that camp of the role of primary health care workers and of strong community action to control the pressure of transmission of chlamydia is highlighted. Their trachoma campaign resulted in a significant reduction of severe grades of active trachoma. © 1986, SAGE Publications. All rights reserved.
