Abstract
This paper discusses selected findings from four social surveys conducted by the Center of Evaluation and Sociomedical Research at the School of Public Health, University of Puerto Rico. The purpose of this review is to demonstrate how findings from these surveys can be used in the planning and development of specific programmes and health care services. Specifically, we will discuss how the findings of the four surveys can help change the target group and the content or/and structure of specific health programmes and services. The four surveys to be discussed are Drug Use Among Puerto Rican Adolescents, Incorporation of Puerto Rican Return Migrants to the Island Social Structure, Impact of Divorce on Women, and Mental Health Need Assessment in Puerto Rico. These were conducted with different population groups during different years. All of the surveys are concerned with diverse aspects of health.
